if a old lady is living alone by herself, then do you still explore the possibility of elder abuse?
i know silly question, but what if she has a burn and she claims it was from cooking?

You follow where the scenario leads. So sure, elder abuse is fair game. I probably would more likely pursue something like Alsheimers if it seemed like she left the stove on. Or maybe a stroke or diabetic neuropathy if it seemed like she burned herself due to lack of sensing that something was hot. Lots of different avenues to pursue, so little time.
