I recently was accepted to a texas medical school. My letter says the offer is dependent upon a background check. A few years back I was charged with domestic violence when a bitter ex told police I attacked him. The police where I live have a policy of filing charges for 100% of accusations. I later got my charges dismissed when my lawyer submitted irrefutable proof that I was innocent and the prosecutor dropped the case before trial. I am concerned about this showing up in my background check and having my offer revoked. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience or anecdotes about similar situations?

edit: Im aware its possible to get dismissed charges expunged but from what I've read it takes 7-8 months which would not give me enough time

Your acceptance will not be revoked unless you were asked about charges and "forgot" to disclose this little incident.

In the meantime get to work on having the charges expunged. It will make your life a little easier downstream.

P.S. Dismissed and dropped are two different things. The latter is more desirable.

Hey! I know this is late but by now u would have started Med school. Would mind sharing if the school found or what happened after the background check?
