question about DO school

I heard from others that some DO schools accept other health profession education(ie: those that graduated from chiropractic schools) credit toward their degree if accepted into DO school. Is that true? Have any of you guys heard such claims?.... just wanted to throw it out there..hopefully i'll get a response from those who are much more well informed than me...

I think you have heard incorrectly. AFAIK, DO schools will only accept transfer credit from other DO/MD schools. At least I hope that's the case....

This is incorrect.

They need to ensure that you have been taught according to AOA standards. There is variation w/ regard to velocity and amplitude among similar manipulations used by some chiropractors vs. D.O.'s, and to the best of my knowledge chiropractors don't do certain types of manipulation (like cranial) that are taught in the OMM courses at osteopathic school.

Hahah no. DO school = schools to train fully licensed physicians. They aren't going to risk letting people slide by with AP credit from a DC school just the same way an MD school wouldn't.

Many med schools will allow you to bypass a few of the year-1 basic science courses, such as biochem/physiology if you've previously attended an accredited U.S. medical school and performed well in said classes within the last year or two (e.g., an SMP or a transfer student who didn't get accepted into MS-2).

However, this generally does *NOT* extend to other health professions or allied health programs, and it ***DEFINITELY*** does not extend to such courses as OMM, as stated by pietachok.

You're going to have to take all courses, just like the rest of your classmates.

ur friend lied to u...we have a pharmD as well in my class and they wouldnt give him credit!

I know a FMG who had to restart taking all the courses at the DO school, no credits were given to her. She graduated about 10yrs ago with MBBCh and now she is a 3rd yr. She was a doctor back in her country. Man, that is pain to go through schooling again.

If your experience was different than his, I'm not sure it means s/he was lied to. A good friend of mine who has a pharmD from Ohio State also had his pharmacology waived at Ohio State's MD program.

My point is that even if it's not common, it's not unheard of. I agree w/ above posters though - 99.999% of the time, nothing will be waived (especially from a DC school).

I may disagree with the statement, but if you're gonna make it, at least make it like an OSU grad should make it.....

Some schools will give credit for classes related to your doctoral level degree such as a PhD in biochem may be able to opt out of a biochem course or a PharmD for certain pharm classes. Others will not regardless....I've never heard of them accepting any credits for non-basic sciences though....
