Hi, I was wondering if some schools may frown upon all my extracurricular activities with the LGBTQ community. For example I was an intern for Transgender healthcare program and coordinator for a Queer Youth Conference. I know its 2013 and this shouldn't be a problem but I also know a lot of people in this world have opposing views.

Thanks.

Unless someone is vehemently anti-gay, which is not too common in academia, I doubt this will be a problem.

I don't know what adcoms would say, but I find your ECs to be refreshingly interesting!

Thanks, I'm just an ally and working with the LGBTQ community has taught me a lot about diversity and inclusiveness

I think this is how it would be viewed, and you would certainly pose it that way during your interviews. Working with populations outside of your own is important.
