I recently viewed Emory's webpage and was very unimpressed by it. Thus, I'm not sure if I want to continue applying there. I know that I should have done this before I submitted my AMCAS to them, but I didn't have time. Does anyone know of a better place to go to get info. about Emory? For those of you who are applying there, what's so great about the school that makes you want to attend?

I might be biased because I attend Emory as an undergrad, but I think it's a huge mistake to judge the school--or any other school--solely by its website. The whole Emory website system--not just the med school's--is indeed disorganized, but I can't complain about the school behind it. The school has major resources (CDC and American Cancer Society headquarters are next door literally, and Jimmy Carter once lectured one of my classes), weather is great most of the year, the cost of living isn't nearly as high as many urban areas, and there's almost nothing you can't find within a 10-mile radius. I'm attracted to the med school because (a) the above (b) they subsidize your fifth year if you do an MPH (c) the MPH program is well-regarded (d) great clinical training sites, including Grady Memorial and the Children's Healthcare system (e) high performances on the boards (due in part to the fact that classes are taken for grades). The only things I would improve if I could are Atlanta traffic issues and other drivers 😛

Hopefully this helps! Good luck whatever you decide.

Thanks so much!!!! This definitely helps. 👍 Anyone else have any advice?

How long did it take people to be complete at Emory? I sent my secondary back about a month ago and still have not heard anything from them.

Take a look at the this http://www.med.emory.edu/TEACHING/EmoryMed.pdf
You should definitely consider applying to emory. It is a highly respected med school with lots of resources for med students. Emory has Grady hospital one of the biggest county hospital in the US and you can get lots of clinical experiences there for your rotation. They are also by CDC and American Cancer Society headquarter. The Staff and the Profs are very supportive here and really care about you. There is lots of research going here. Altanta is a great city to be in. If you have any question about Emory just pm me, I am a first year student here at emory.

how long was it from when you mailed in your secondary to emory notifying you that you were complete?

I sent my letters on 8/20, I sent my check on 8/23, and I submitted my electronic application on 8/22. I received an email notifying me that my application was complete on 8/31.

Hope this helps.

thanks this does help. i sent my check the same day as you (and everything else before then) and still haven't received a you are complete email. i am going to contact emory and see what is missing from my file.

I have found, if anything, an inverse correlation between website quality and school reputation. Emory's is terrible, there's almost nothing there. Vanderbilt's looks awful. So does Wash U's. Duke's is confusing as heck to navigate. Yet these are some top schools. Meanwhile, for example, University of Cincinnati has a great website even though the school is nothing special.

that's ridiculous, duke's website is excellent. It gives you all the information you could possibly want. I really don't see anything wrong with the vanderbilt website either. Emory's website sucks for real though

I didn't say Duke's was bad, I said it was confusing to navigate. It is. I'm happy if it was intuitive for you, but it wasn't for me (and I have a background in web design). Maybe you don't agree, but that doesn't warrant you calling my opinion "ridiculous."

Vanderbilt's website had broken links and empty pages the last time I looked at it. Also, tiers and tiers of submenus with no way to get back up the tree except by clicking the "Back" button doesn't make for good, userfriendly design either.

I agree about Duke. They have a lot of info. on their site but it is very confusing.

You can't always tell a book by its cover. Interview there before writing them off.

the OP probably just asked this to get ideas for the secondary.

hey OP, you should definitely check out the link in taehong81's post. Emory's viewbook is really good! ... Hehe after taking a look at that and comparing the program to other schools, Emory is definitely one of my top choices! 😍

I sent all of my stuff over a month ago too. Ive been wondering why I havent been offered an interview yet, and today I get an email saying my application is now complete. This sucks. Its gonna be weeks now and I wont get to interview as early.

OP is either pretty clever, or you might be overly jaded, ya just can't tell in these situations 😀

The viewbook is pretty good, it gives you information as to what the class load is like during your first and second years and gives a good description of the classes. It still lacking in information compared to many other schools. It could be worse though.

I know that emory's website doesn't provide good information, but they are working hard to update it now. Last year they worked hard to update emory's viewbook which was a great guide. The staff knows that the website is old and this year they are updating it. So stay tuned for the new website! While they are updating, if you have any question about emory just pm me, would love to answer questions that all you guys might have. Good luck!
