Hi everyone! I had a question regarding the publication of encore abstracts. I wanted to submit an encore abstract to an organization. The organization states that encore abstracts will only have the title, author, and citation (as opposed to the whole abstract) published in it's journal. If only the title, author, and citation are published in the journal, is it still considered as a publication even though the actual abstract isn't published? Thanks in advance for the help!

Without sharing the name of the organization, it is hard to comment.

Are you being offered the "opportunity" to present your encore at an organization meeting, for which you are then expected to pay a hefty registration fee? It seems similar to all of the emails I get inviting me to give a lecture at an international conference for an organization I've never heard of and covering a topic I don't know a single thing about. This is the price I'm going to pay for the rest of my career (or for as long as I work at the same place and have the same email address) for not protesting enough when a co-researcher wanted to send a manuscript to a pay for play journal.

Depending on the organization, it could be legit, but based on what you've shared (titles and authors only / no abstract), this sounds sketchy. Predatory conferences are a thing now, just like predatory journals. Beware and be aware.

I think this organization is legitimate since it's well known and abstracts have to be first accepted before being published, but you're definitely right that there are lots of predatory conferences out there. I will definitely keep your advice in mind when moving forward with abstracts. Thank you!
