Hey all,

I am getting ready to apply for this upcoming cycle and I just had a quick question. Does anyone know if schools take into consideration the fall grades in their final GPA calculations? I would think most would but I know it might be hard for schools to, considering the application is due before grades come out. Just wondering!

Thanks.

I know some schools will use your fall grades to recalculate GPAs and/or re-rank you if that kind of system is used. This is generally dive after interviews have been completed. Other schools may offer admission before the fall term is even over. Just depends.

Some schools do later interviews (and/or the invitations) though. VMR wanted fall grades before the invites were sent out.

And there's that way, too.

So depends on the school. I know Purdue doesn't look at your fall grades until after acceptance, just to make sure you're still passing your classes.

Thanks! Does anyone know which schools might take fall grades into account? I feel like they don't really publicize it on their site.

Some schools might only consider fall grades for IS students, just because a) their applicant pool is smaller and b) transcripts get there faster after fall grades are due. I believe (two application cycles ago) that WSU only looked at the grades reported to VMCAS until you had been granted an interview and then had to either send in or bring in sealed transcripts with you and fall grades had to be included on that transcript.

But then remember, VMCAS just started with the transcript check this application cycle so schools might be changing the policy due to this (the time frame isn't conclusive to checking fall transcripts before interviews/acceptances are sent out). For this reason LSU changed their policy, they use to check fall grades for IS students not OOS, but this past application cycle the policy was changed so that no fall grades were used in GPA calculations. They are now only used to make sure your pre-reqs taken during that time met the requirements of the college.
