I am filling out applications for summer internships. For the ethnicity question, it says: American Indian or Alaska Native - A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North, Central, or South America and maintains tribal affiliation or community.

I have very distant direct ancestors that are American Indian. When I say distant, I mean like 12 generations. Is that too far back to be considered of American Indian origin?

Is there a specific proportion that I must be in order to indicate that?

I don't really think you fall under that category.

Oh yeah, do it baby.

To be fair, it's an appropriate question. With institutional racism... errr.. "affirmative action" playing a role in applications, what percent of a specific ancestory is needed to qualify? Do only pure breds count? What shade of skin color is dark enough? If I look through my family tree and find a slave, do I qualify for repriations?
