Hey guys,

I am working on the Course Work section on AMCAS's website and find difficulty when assigning the right Quarters with the right Year. I read the AMCAS instructions but it didn't clarify things completely.

My transcript shows: Fall Q2000, Winter Q2001, Spring Q2001...then Fall Q2001, Winter Q2002...(you get the idea.)

When I add this data to the fields online, I come out with: 2000 Q1 (fall), 2000 Q2 (winter), 2000 Q3 (spring), 2000 SS (Summer Session)...and repeat next year until 2004.

1. is the correct order of quarters: SS (Q4), Fall (Q1), Winter (Q2), Spring (Q3)? Or is it: Fall (Q1), Winter (Q2), Spring (Q3), SS (Q4)? Somehow in the AMCAS instructions it says summer session comes first, but that doesn't seem right if its listed as "Q4".

2. If I began college (freshmen) in September 2000, would I begin with 2000 Q1 Fall?

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I still find the whole system a bit confusing.

I think the system's years are based on the entire school year beginning in the fall of 2000, so even though your classes were in the spring of 2001, they show up as being in the 2000 school year. I noticed the same thing when filling out my AMCAS, but it turned out fine. Don't worry about it. 🙂

It just lists the quarters in order, with fall being 1, winter being 2, spring being 3 etc.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mustangsally,

Thanks for the input, I think you're right (chronological order when AMCAS lists it.)

I was hoping the 06 one was up so I could get all my information put in early! oh well...

Ahhhhhh, the memories.

i'm filling out the app now since my school wants us to fill out the paper 1999 amcas app this winter. i've always had semester classes (and summer classes) none during the winter, it was always "fall semester" and "spring semester". on this sample app i have, under "term", they are listed S1, SM, S2, for the first two years then by junior year the terms are "Q1, Q2, Q3, QS" then Q1 again. then, post-bacc and graduate work are S and T. what does S, Q and T stand for? i'm totally lost on how to fill out that part of the application. I can't even find the instructions on the amcas website. someone help?!?
thanks!

Hi Wendy,

Hopefully this helps. Heres the link to AMCAS 2005 page, the second link includes a pdf file titled "2005 application instruction booklet."

AMCAS 2005

2005 app instruction booklet

I think S, Q, and T stand for Semester, Quarter, and Trimester (systems) for the calender year. Its described on page 26. I figure your post-bacc program had a different system, namely S and T, while your undergrad was Q.

OH, and I found out when they offer the 2006 AMCAS application. It should be available April/May 2005. I found this information on Duke's Health professions advising page:

http://www.aas.duke.edu/trinity/prehealth/app/records2006.html

When does the 2006 app come out? I did the same thing, I started early, WOOPS! 🙄 I guess i got too excited!!!

You can usually begin filling it out in May. The resources should be released a couple weeks before that. As I recall, the 2005 application opened around May 3rd and the first day you could submit was actually June 2nd. I wouldn't worry about it though; as long as your personal statement's ready, you'll have more than enough time to fill it out.

hey early appliers... u guys are pretty smart in doing this thing early. i would definately try to turn it in the first day you can. honestly, i think it makes the world of difference, just ask the people that are on here. if you can't pull up the application, u might as well start workin on the PS (if u really want to get something done). that's the hardest part. gluck!
