Would anyone please help me to understand what it means by gene-/- and gene+/+ ?
For example, what does it mean by OPG+/+ and OPG-/- mice ?
OPG = Osteoprotegerin gene
Thank you very much !

+ means WT, - means there's some sort of mutation rendering the gene nonfunctional. +/+ means both alleles are WT, (homozygous), opposite for -/-
Thank you for that reply!
one more question to ask!
what is the " OPG knockout mice " ?

Does it mean the gene on mice has been inactivated and waiting to be reactivated ?

-/- is the genotype and "knockout" is the phenotype. When you "knockout" a gene it means you induce a mutation to make it non-functional. The KO mice is the -/- mice
