Hey, does any one know if VMCAS uses a pretty standard formula to calculate GPAs?? My GPA is pretty low (it's a bit embarrassing) but I haven't really had much of an idea of how low, other than my undergrad GPA. I am a non-traditional student and have taken most of my pre-reqs post-bacc, so I was hoping this would boost my cum. However I was trying to calculate my cum (+post bacc) just to get an idea and its even lower than I thought!!! I thought I heard that the way VMCAS calculates GPA may be a little different so I was hoping that this could work to my advantage but not sure if that is the case. Any thoughts? Just wondering if anyone has insight into this.

On another note I was wondering if anyone knows which schools tend to weight experience pretty heavy. As I said above my gpa is pretty ****ty but I do have a ton of experience and I was hoping that this would work to my advantage. I know most schools will at least glance at experience but does any one know of any that weight it a little heavier than most??

I am a CA resident and I kind of got screwed over with Davis being my IS. 🙁

Thanks for this post.. the VMCAS application generates a number of GPA calculations for veterinary schools that is based on the transcript verification process. We provide schools with a term by term GPA; Science GPA; Overall GPA, Non-Science GPA. The system that VMCAS provides to schools (called: WebAdMIT) allows schools to generate their own GPA's based on your verified data. Your Post Bacc GPA will be factored into the VMCAS generated GPA, as will any professional coursework you might have taken (new this year).

Regarding experience, that's a tough question to ask as almost all the schools calculate a variety of weights within their admissions processes. You may have some success checking with the admissions websites at schools you're interested in applying to. Some do list their admissions weights online.
