Hello,
I will be applying to PT school this summer, I currently live in VA. I was wondering if anyone knows if any PT schools anywhere in the country do not base their tuition costs on whether or not the student is in state or out of state? In other words, are there any PT schools that don't have different tuition for in state vs. out of state students? Thanks so much for any advice.

Private universities do not base tuition on residence; however, these schools obviously may charge more that public university tuition for out-of-state tuition. Just gotta do some reseach!

There are scholarships out there at some universities that give out-of-state students in-state tuition.

Central ark I think has a tuition of $30k in and out of state. Probably extremely competitive though

"...GRADUATE tuition and hourly fees for Arkansas residents AND residents of states contiguous to Arkansas (Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas) total $278.02 per graduate semester hour. Out of state residents (of states non-contiguous to Arkansas) for Fall 2012 pay $503.82 per graduate semester hour..."

If you can find a full time job in-state 90 days before the first day of class you can get in-state for the most part. Worked for me at UAB. Good luck.

A lot of schools I have looked into (in states TX, NC, IL) basically state that you need to live in the state a full year before you go to school before you can get instate tuition. You need to have some type of employment (you can just move there a couple weeks before to go to school and get instate tuition) and "show" that you want to be part of that state. You show your intent to remain in the state after you graduate by registering to vote, get a drivers licenses, register your car in the state. If you gain employment in the state, you are paying taxes in the state and thus paying for the state funded schools.

I am not sure how 90 days was enough for the previous poster to get instate tuition to UAB, but I do not think that is typical. I plan to move to the state where I am applying for schools a year before I am hopefully admitted.

Applicants who meet one of the following conditions are generally reclassified as in-state residents for tuition purposes:

  • You are a member, the spouse, and/or dependent child of a member in the U. S. military on full-time active duty stationed in Alabama under orders for duties other than attending school.
  • You are a full-time employee (not temporary) in the state or the spouse or minor dependent of such an employee.
  • You are employed by UAB as a graduate assistant or fellow
