Hey guys,

I'm currently trying to finish my application for this cycle but I have one concern.
My major is Biochemistry and my school didn't require Intro bio 2 for a biochem major, so I didn't take it.

I always thought upper bio classes could fulfill the 8 semester hours of biology that most schools require
but I read some threads saying it wouldn't :(...

I only completed 5 hrs of Intro Bio 1 but have 4hours of Microbio w/ lab + 4hours of Human Physiology w/ lab + 3 hours of Genetics no lab.

I have about 8 credits left before graduation and I was wondering if I should take the intro bio 2 this fall??
(I should be graduating by December 2016) Can I still apply if I'm taking the second part of bio this fall??

Please help me out :(

Thanks,

I would ask individual dental schools about this, and if they still insist you on taking bio 2, just delay your graduation. All of the prereqs need to be completed before you enroll. Maybe you can take it during the summer, but I would not consider that unless you have everything ready to sumbit

Are you saying that if I complete intro bio 2 this fall, it wouldn't hurt my application?
I can pretty much take ANY course with that 8 credit hrs since I'm done with my major requirements.

I had this exact same problem. Not exactly for the same reason, but I went to UNC and we don't even have intro bio 2. We have Bio 101 and then it goes straight into the 200 level classes, so our school only offers 4 credit hours of intro bio. Some schools will not accept upper level bios for that "general requirement" (UCSF and Colorado for starters). If you want to pm me I can tell you the schools I called and which ones said it was okay and which said I may need to just take another intro bio class at a community college if I choose to go to that school before I matriculate. The ones that did require it said it wouldn't affect getting an interview or getting accepted, just that I'd have to take it before I actually start.

Thanks for the reply,
Where do I mention that I will be taking intro Bio 2 on the AADSAS application?
I think I will just take it this fall since I can take whatever I want with the remaining 8 credit requirement for graduation.

I don't think so, since you seem to have a solid foundation in biology with your upper level electives. Assuming you have taken the DAT, you just need to finish bio 2 before you enroll. You will be fine

Just under the planned course or future course thing. Only do this if you're 100% sure you are going to take it though.
