Hey everyone, I'm still a student so I didn't start residency yet. I'm not sure where to post this, so mods please move this to the appropriate forum.

I'm thinking of doing locums work after residency, most likely in IM or FM field. I've heard of a lot of jobs that are week on/week off and I've heard that the locums company pays for the hotel/living accommodations for that week on. My question is, will they pay for living accommodations during the week that I'm not working? I'm thinking of just staying in a hotel room for the entire duration that I'm assigned, including weeks that I'm not actually working. Will they pay for all 4 weeks in a month? Please help and advise. Thanks

No they would not. They only cover you when you make money for them. Nothing is free. They will make at least 2x of what they pay you.

Thank you for the informative reply. That's what I had assumed to begin with but I just had to make sure. So I guess I would need to find a permanent residence where I can go to in between scheduled weeks... Probably my parents house to save money. Or just pay for a cheap hotel for the days I'm not working - but I wouldn't save much money that way.

OR ideally you could get a full time position. Then if you still want and willing to do more, you could do these locum gigs on the side. Plenty of people do this. No need to more back to the Parents house.

That's a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion. If the scheduling works out between the full time position and the locums gig, I could definitely see this as a way to earn extra.
