I am one of those misguided med students who just can't make up my mind about what type of residency to enter; medicine vs surgery... while doing both and getting some awesome letters of references from each field and other subspecialities, i made the mistake of having the attending comment i my future in his/her repective field... if i do enter the world of medicine, will a LOR from a surgeon stating that i would make a great surgeon count against me in my application? will i eventually get "grilled" during the interviews with questions like, "well, why didn't you go into surgery?" should i have the attendings change the last paragraphs of the LOR's or is this not as big a deal as i'm making it out to be... most attendings i have asked have said that an excellent LOR is all that anyone could ask for and that it may actually look good that i can adapt and enjoy/excel at many different fields... any advice?

I agree with the attendings you have talked to. It sounds like you got a great letter. Saying that you'd be a great surgeon will only help your medicine appliation, and vice-versa.
