I've already asked two of my past professors for letters of rec, and was thinking about getting a third just in case. My question is: Do medical schools allow you to submit LORs that are from professors who you're CURRENTLY taking a class with? I was thinking about asking my neuroscience professor for a letter. This is my favorite subject so I'm expecting to do well in the class.

Thanks (I'm pretty new here, but my experience at this message board has been great. Everyone is so helpful.)

As long as this professor knows you well enough to write a good letter, it shouldn't be a problem. Offer to meet with him/her if they should need to ask you any questions that would help with their writing of the letter.

Are you applying for schools now, or next year? If you're not submitting your application until next summer, then it's a good idea to ask prospective letter writers now, because you never know how long they'll take to write it. If you're in the process now, you may want to consider the time it will take your professor to get back to you and how that might affect/delay your application.

They won't care if you are still taking the course from your letter writer. Some forms ask for class ranking in their class, so they wouldn't be able to answer a question like that, but that is the only thing it would affect.
