I'm still a freshman and am deciding what to major in and in general am looking for any advice.

I'm at a Top 25 school so that I think should be taken into consideration.

First semester wasn't too good and I got a below 3.0 gpa. I realized my mistakes and did better this semester.
However, I think I might still get only around a 3.2 or a 3.3 if I'm lucky. I want to apply for MD and DO schools.

I have narrowed my choice to two majors: Chemistry and Industrial Engineering

Chemistry

Pros
Easier in terms of classes
Might help my gpa
Allow for research and other ECs
A lot of Chem majors at my school get into medical school

Cons
Not much in terms of career options if I don't like medicine or don't get into a medical school.
Lots of electives

Engineering

Pros
Job out of College if Medicine is not for me.
Good skill set
Kinda Interesting
A lotta my friends are in Engineering

Cons
Might not help my Science GPA since I've been doing badly in my science classes.

Another question I have is how important is the science GPA?
I have already taken about half of the core BCMP classes and haven't done too well.
So if I do Chemistry I can take more science to help my GPA.

Any advice?

This is so so wrong. There are tons of career options for chemistry majors. You can go into forensic science (like on CSI!), pharmaceutical development and testing, or government work (like for the department of agriculture, energy, defense, or the EPA or really anything). You can go into toxicology or public health. You can go into food science to develop new flavors for candy and ice cream, or develop new cosmetic formulas. You can even go to law school to become a patent lawyer. There are even jobs in art conservation for chemistry majors.

So don't let that affect your decision! You are definitely not limited to medical school if you choose chemistry.

If you want to be a physician, choose the major where you'll get the best GPA. Considering the excellent information in the above post, hopefully you'll be less stressed about the Chemistry option.

Your gpa is low regardless of what school you attend.

If you don't find a way to bring your gpa up, your goal of medical school will be really tough to attain. Choose the easier major and work hard.

Thanks for your help guys.

Another more suggestions or advice?

I was going to make a comment on the electives as a con too.. I'm a psych/chem double major, and honestly, I love all the classes I have to take between the two majors, but I would kill to be able to squeeze in some classes like anatomy and physiology, medical ethics, etc. if it didn't mean giving up the time I put into chem research (which I also enjoy). There are not enough hours in college! Enjoy your electives, find something fun!
