I'm still a freshman and am deciding what to major in and in general am looking for any advice.
I'm at a Top 25 school so that I think should be taken into consideration.
First semester wasn't too good and I got a below 3.0 gpa. I realized my mistakes and did better this semester.
However, I think I might still get only around a 3.2 or a 3.3 if I'm lucky. I want to apply for MD and DO schools.
I have narrowed my choice to two majors: Chemistry and Industrial Engineering
Chemistry
Pros
Easier in terms of classes
Might help my gpa
Allow for research and other ECs
A lot of Chem majors at my school get into medical school
Cons
Not much in terms of career options if I don't like medicine or don't get into a medical school.
Lots of electives
Engineering
Pros
Job out of College if Medicine is not for me.
Good skill set
Kinda Interesting
A lotta my friends are in Engineering
Cons
Might not help my Science GPA since I've been doing badly in my science classes.
Another question I have is how important is the science GPA?
I have already taken about half of the core BCMP classes and haven't done too well.
So if I do Chemistry I can take more science to help my GPA.
Any advice?
