Hey guys and gals! Hope I am placing this post in the correct place, I apologize if I should place it somewhere else. I have decided that I am going to go for the Master's Program (1 year program) route prior to medical school. My question is more just a genuine question regarding Master's Programs.

I have done quite a bit of research, mostly in Masters Programs associated with DO schools. I was wondering is there any kind of bias of attending DO vs MD Master's program and applying to the opposite schools? For example, going to MWU-Chicago and applying to UW-Madison or vice versa? Not interested in either, just using as an example.

Also, how do medical schools (DO or MD) view Master's Programs that are not associated with a medical school such as Iowa State?

I appreciate any feedback.

I am referring to programs like the Master of Biomedical Sciences at ATSU-Kirksville or the Master of Anatomy at DMU. Not sure if the one year programs like ATSU are classified as SMP.

I have yet to see any difference between where SMPs are offered. My Adcom has never once raised the issue for a candidate. Grads of my school's SMP have gone to MD schools, so it didn't hinder them.

If your goal is to do an SMP to prove you can handle med school, it would be in your best interest to go for programs actually offered by or associated with med schools. Preferably if you'll be taking classes alongside med students or at a comparable level. You won't be "docked points" for completing a general masters program at a non-medical affiliated schools, but just figure out what your application needs, why and how specifically an SMP vs. a masters program could help your app, then use that criteria find the programs best suited for you.

If you have any programs in mind you should do a search on the postbac forum to see if anyone has had anything to say about it also.

Thanks for your advice and feedback! @etp123 I will definitely check out the forums as I do have a few schools that I am interested in!
