So I am currently a Paramedic working in a Pediatric Emergency Room. I was talking with a couple of the Residents and Attendings that are in my ER and a few of them suggested I'd look in to Med School as they all said I am a really good Paramedic and that I would make a great ER doctor. I am a little leary on Med School mostly because of the cost and how hard it is. I made it through Paramedic school which is tough. I am a little confused on what I would need to apply to a Med School. Just a little bit about me I have an associate's degree in Fire Science and have been an EMT for 6 years now and have been a Paramedic for a year. I enjoy doing what I do and with things being tough getting a job as a Firefighter/Paramedic I thought I'd look at other career options. As dumb of a question as it might be, do you need to have your bachelor's degree to get in to Med School? I thought you might need to but I am unsure. Also with the Paramedic, we have to initally take the National Registry exam which is suppose to be one of the toughest tests in the nation. (I don't know if thats true or not) but I have looked at a few of the MCAT practice test books and the MCAT doesn't seem that different from the National Registry test. I guess I'd just like some insight from anyone that knows more about this than I do. Thanks!

you need a Bachelor Degree to go Medical school in the US (MD or DO) (TO MY UNDERSTANDING, I applied 3 years ago, dont know if the policy has changed since)
So if you want to go to medschool, you got to go back to college and get your bachelor degree, probably in Biology or something like that. So you can do all the required medical school pre-req courses. And Yes take the MCAT

I dont know if your AA degree will transfer to an accredited university or college. If it does then you have some credits already and dont have to start all over again to get a bachelor's degree.

For people with a Bachelor's Degree, all they have to do is go take the required medical school prereq classes (as a post bac student), take MCAT and apply to Medschool. I know a few classmates that did that.

Good luck

You have not even taken the prereqs for med school and you are already comparing the Paramedic National Registry Exam with the MCAT...I dont know how hard the paramedic test is but I can tell you that the MCAT is a very unique test in term of how it test one's understanding of "basic" science concepts.
