When medical schools require a certain course (like say 3 credits of Genetics), do they want those classes taken and with grades when you apply?

Or is they want all those classes taken before you matriculate the following year?

The reason why I'm asking is because MSUCOM's requirements for admission page says the following:

"MSUCOM students are expected to complete all prerequisite credit hours before they begin classes in June. There are no exceptions or waivers. Prospective students who have questions about these requirements should make an appointment to speak with an MSUCOM admissions advisor."

Is this the same for all medical schools?

before you matriculate
Do you need to have it listed under "planned" classes in AMCAS? Unfortunately, schools have different requirements so one may only take some classes if they are accepted to a specific school but AMCAS goes to all schools.

For me, I have them all listed under AMCAS, and many schools make you fill out the prereq's in their secondaries. 99% of schools will allow you to apply without having finished the required courses.

Classifying a course as "current/future" does not bind you to taking that course in any way. To be on the safe side, if one of your schools requires biochem and you haven't taken it yet but plan to take it before matriculation if you go to that school, list it as "current/future." No penalty for not ending up taking that class if you decide not to go to that school.
