New job has 12k relocation allowance....I was wondering, if the hospital pays for the moving company directly, without reimbursing me, is this income still taxable? Since technically I never received that money? Or would it be the same thing if I paid for movers, and the money was reimbursed to my account?

anyone have experience with this?

Depending on when people did this will determine their experience as the rules changes somewhat with the 2017 legislation.

very useful! Its definitely important to consider how much a moving/relocation bonus is once you factor in taxes, that's a nice lesson.

From my experience, some companies offer relocation allowances, but it really depends on the gig. If you're negotiating with a new employer, it never hurts to ask about what they might cover for moving costs. Some places are super generous, others not so much.

As for long distance moving company, they can be a game-changer if you're going cross-country or even just a few states over. It's all about finding one that's reliable and won't break the bank. Check reviews, get quotes, and don't be afraid to haggle a bit.
