Hi,
my MSPE was downloaded by the programs but they won't see that until Nov 1st. I am an IMG and reapplicant and ECFMG sent my old MSPE from last year automatically to ERAS but my school now wrote a new MSPE that I want to be used. I graduated since last year and my board grades and some more information is provided in that new MSPE so I want to use that instead. If I send the new MSPE to ECFMG and they scan it, will they send it to the ERAS post office and will it "overwrite" the old one? I don't want the programs to see the old MSPE so they don't know that I applied last year (I wasn't able to start residency since the ECFMG certificate didn't come in in time). Does anyone know if they will only get to see the new one if the old one was already downloaded (I mean they won't see it until Nov 1st so I thought they won't even be able to download it until then)?

You have no worries. If the ECFMG uploads a new MSPE, then it will overwrite the old one and programs will never be the wiser -- assuming this all happens pre-Nov 1st.

ERAS changed it's software a few years ago. Instead of downloading all of the MSPE's on Nov 1 (which was a huge PITA), we now download them as we go, and they are encrypted. On Nov 1, they all get decrypted and are available. That's why you see your MSPE as downloaded.

to piggyback on this question... does the same also hold true for transcripts?

Thanks for the quick reply! That makes sense. I will get the MSPE tomorrow and will send it to ECFMG tomorrow on the quickest way hoping they will finally get there act together and start scanning a little quicker! Thank you so much for taking the time and always answering all those questions here. Don't know how many more sleepless nights we all would have!

Yes and No.

If a new transcript is uploaded into ERAS, I will get a new copy of your transcript and the prior electronic copy will be replaced. However, if I've already printed your transcript, then I can refer to the old one (but can also print the new one). The original question was about MSPE -- since that can't be viewed / printed until Nov 1, the answer is slightly different.

So, if I understand what you are saying correctly, when a program downloads a newer MSPE, it automatically replaces the old one previously downloaded -- so long as the second download occurs prior to Nov 1? Or do they just end up with both the older and the newer version of your MSPE and decide for themselves which one to look at?

We can only see one MSPE. If you upload a new one, that's all we'll see. If it's after Nov 1 there is some chance it will have been printed out, but in the electronic application we will only see the new one.

What if I accidentally retransmitted my transcript but it is the same as the old one and you already downloaded the old one? Is that a huge PITA for the programs? What would you think of that? 🙁😳
