Hello,

I am currently in the process of applying for med schools (2025-2026 cycle), and I am wondering how competitive my application will be. I just got a score back for my MCAT and was pretty depressed about the score. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I graduated last year and am taking "2" gap years

Background: Asian, ORM
Major/Minor: Bio, Film/TV
GPA: 3.95, sGPA: 3.92
MCAT: 512 (84%)

Extracurriculars:
EMT (1300 hours)
Clinical Volunteering (250 hrs hospital, 150 hrs underserved pop clinic)
MA (150 hours + continuing)
Research (200 hrs at endocrinology lab (not too sig) + 150 hours of translational research (social determinants, 2 possible pubs awaiting))
Leadership (500 hours small group leader)
Tutoring (200 hrs, taught student to get 5 on AP Calc without taking the course)
Shadowing (50 hrs from 3 physicians)
Judo Club (200 hrs)
Photography Club (100 hrs)

I am trying to see if I am competitive for UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, UCDavis, UC Riverside, and other med schools in California. I am open for schools in other areas as well. Also, any suggestions on the list of med schools I should apply would be great.

Thank you!

Welcome to the forums.

Do you have non-clinical community service? Service orientation activities? What's your state of residence and state of birth?
I am currently working on the non-clinical service. Currently volunteering at a senior center and planning on teaching seniors how to use phone camera. I was originally inspired to do so due to my film/tv minor + strong interest in geriatrics. By the time I apply, I will have around 20 hours and I will continue volunteering throughout the gap

State of residence: CA
Birth: South Korea
