So I will be a Sophomore in college this coming semester so I have about 2 years till I apply. I already have about 15 hours shadowing my current dentist and plenty of time to get more hours. I have a good gig at the boys and girls club where I should be able to get around 100-150 hours by the time I apply. I also am volunteering at a local free dental clinic, but am wondering if I should count those hours as shadowing instead of volunteering. I already have like 20 hours there so if I included it as shadowing, it would be much easier to fill the 100 hour shadowing requirement so many dental schools have. But then I would lose a volunteering activity on my application.

So would it be best to get most of my hours of shadowing from the dental clinic, continue to shadow some other dentists to fill the 100 hours, and then also volunteer at the boys and girls club, and maybe pick up another volunteering job somewhere...

or

should I continue to use the dental clinic as volunteering hours, shadow a bunch more dentists, and volunteer at the boys and girls club still.

Does either option work good? Or would I still need more extra-curriculars? I also am in my pre-dental club since freshman year and will have a leadership role this year.

Free clinics usually do limited procedures (extractions and fillings?) and have different dentists rotate in. You probably want more of your "shadowing" hours to come from an actual office so that you see a variety of procedures. Also you want to shadow one dentist for a good amount of hours so you can get a letter.
