I have contacts that are suppose to last me a week for each pair. Problem is that i tend to wear these contacts for 2 months straight. Of course I do take them out every night.

My question is, am i harming my eyes?

Most likely.

When doctors give you instructions, they don't really mean them. We just like feeling important and bossing people around. You patients are the real experts, so just keep on doing whatever you want.

No, wearing your contact lenses for 2 months is not good because the contact lenses might have a substantial amount of protein build up on it, etc...i've seen numerous amounts of people who overwear their contact lenses and then have eye infections because of it.

You should start a new thread for this topic. And it has been answered before, so do a search.
But...
Someone just started www.optstudent.com
Check www.opted.org also

it normally takes 4 years undegrad + 4 years grad for a OD
salary ranges from 70k-120k/year. Median by BLS in 2004 is 88k, whereas AOA reports 130k. You take your pick.

Seriously, though,

Why do you want to wear the lenses the way you do? What about the doctor's advice or recommendations did you find trivial or irrelevant? What is his/her manner? His/her credibility?

I HAVE A SUGGESTION!
there are lenses out there that you can wear for more then 1 week...GET THOSE LENSES instead!

if you are trying to save money and make your one week lenses last for 2 months...THAT IS WRONG! find another way to save money...your eyes are important and you don't want to get an infection.

My friend wore her lenses like you are, and she started getting reallly bad stinging in her eyes. When she went to her optometrist, she was told she could not wear any lenses for atleast 6 months (and turned out she didn't even have an infection or anything...her eyes were just irritated, etc...so she actually got lucky, much worst could have happened.) so unless you want to be forced to go back to glasses...or worst, get an infection...CHANGE YOUR CONTACTS AS RECOMMENDED BY YOUR OPTOMETRIST!🙂 🙂

Two weeks ago I had a patient who wore his 2 week lenses for the last 6 months. He came in with severe eye pain. He had a huge corneal ulcer. He was luck, it was not on the visual axis, but he still was in a ton of pain.

he's right. best thing to do is to call your doctor and let her/him know about new protocol, procedures, and other medical information. that way your doctor will know at least a little bit about what she/he is doing and won't have to continually ask the patient for advice on diagnsosis/assessment and treatment plan.
