Question about Nova Interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
if I recall correctly, they send you a date and you can call to accept or try to change to another date.

Do they schedule interview dates for you? Or do you have options?

I received a letter stating December 5th. When I called to confirm, I asked if I could change the date. The lady told me, a bit rudely I might add, "No," with no explanation at all. I then just took my date but I am still trying to figure out how and why that is.

The reason they said "no" is because they don't want to do extra work for a student who is probably going to reject them because NOVA isn't your first choice. They know that if it WAS your first choice you would be so excited for the chance to interview, that you would accept practically anything they gave you just for the chance to get in. But alas, you want to change the date which indicates to them that this is probably a back up for you and you will only go if it's convenient.

That's a lot of assumption for not knowing anything about my goals and/or schedule. There could be a lot of reasons for someone not being able to make it on one particular date. You sure that's the reason?

I have a wedding to attend in Vegas in October. There are 4 days in October that I cannot interview. I hope it will be okay with them... I hope the interview doesn't fall on those days. 🙁

I mean, I will be as accomodating as I can. But, I've known about the wedding since June and I really am happy for my interview. Just in case, I hope I get better reception than that. 🙁 I hate being such a worry-wart, but I can't help it. I can breathe easy once I get my actual interview date.

I'm wondering, so is everyone getting interviews for December now? They sure filled up their September-November quickly. But who am I to complain.

Be honest... if you really wanted to go to NOVA, if it was your top school, I doubt you would call to reschedule... even for a wedding or some birthday, or some final exam review, or a day with 6 classes that you don't wanna miss... you would go regardless of the inconvenience. I'd say the only good reason to miss it is if you have a final exam that can't be rearranged or you have to appear in court or something else that you MUST attend. Believe me, NOVA wastes a lot of time interviewing and accepting students that reject them in the end...

Well, actually, I've always been interested in Nova. My grandparents live in WPB, which also happens to be a really fun place to kick it. Its probably my 2nd or 3rd choice behind Michigan. In fact, the main reason I'd be interested in rescheduling is so I could move my interview pre-December 1st, in hopes that that would increase my chances of getting in. Anyway, appreciate the response, I definitely understand your reasoning.

If it was your bestfriend's wedding and you were the maid of honor, I think it does make a difference. Especially if you were asked and agreed to it over a year and a half ago. I do want to go to Nova but I also want to be there for my bestfriend's wedding. How could I just walk out on that? There are different circumstances. And I truly hope that my interview does not fall on that day. If it does, that would be immensely troublesome.

To anyone who had interview before or is going to be interviewed at Nova, please help me with these questions: which hotel/motel I should stay when going there? How about the transportation to the campus? Where are you supposed to meet them on campus? If I'm going to have the interview at 11:45 am, will there be any problem if my flight (leaving Ft Lauderdale) is at 6:20pm?
Any reply or advice is appreciated.

You should receive a packet with hotel information when you receive your official letter. There are two hotels that offer free shuttle service to/from the airport and to/from the campus. I believe they were Hampton Inn and Comfort Inn, I honestly can't remember. The hotels listed also offer interviewee discounts for one night. Also, 6:20pm should be fine in my opinion unless they have changed the schedule of events for the day. When you arrive at the Health Professions Division, you walk in the front door and turn right to go in this office (Office of Admissions I believe) and you sign in and sit and wait until they come in. They will split you up into 2 groups, half have their interviews first while the others go on a tour with DS1 students, then you switch. It's also pretty cool to meet other pre-health professional students. There were future medical and PA students interviewing the same day as me.

Has anyone receive their information packet yet? I received the official letter about a month ago.

I stayed at the Comfort Suites on Davie Rd. - like toothfairy said, there is a shuttle to/from both the airport and the school. You will have to call them from the airport when you arrive, as their shuttle doesn't keep circulating. The hotel was modest and clean, plus, there is free in-room internet service. There are two restaurants next to the hotel, plus a Ruby Tuesday's and CVS down the street (5-10 min walk). If you have to catch a flight, you can let them know ahead of time and they will interview you first.

I didn't receive any packet with the letter. But thanks a lot for the information.

The Comfort Inn on Davie was really nice. It was a suite so you had a lot of room and the shuttle service was nice to have. Also, it's just a short drive to the school.

I actually did reschedule my interview date with the school and the lady who did it for me was not rude about it. She just put me in for the next week and that was all it took, just a short call. I told them why and they didn't seem to care. I was going to be in Las Vegas the week of my Nova interview to attend the ADA convention so I asked them if I could reschedule for the following week and she accommodated. I'm sure whoever rudely told you you could not reschedule was probably not the same person I talked to.
