I found a thread about people taking these online classes, but no substantial information past that.

I called and they said they were regionally accredited, and that most schools accept their transfer credits. I want to take a repeat class their to get my gpa close to a 3.5. I did bad in a class and my gpa is a 3.3 right now. I failed it, but have since taken much higher levels and feel confident I can do well. I don't want to wait until after I submit my aacoms to take the class, and they offer this class at the end of this month.

My questions are as follows

1. Did anyone have problems with grade replacement with an orgeon state online class?

2. How did it appear on your transcript?

3. Just to verify, because it seems like this thread comes up every week, but I always hear mixed reviews which worries me. If the class I am taking is a different credit hour, but the same basic 200 level class, it will replace the original one right? The online is only 4 credit hours, while the original one I took is 5.

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure I remember reading a post that stated it is important to match credit hours for a replacement.

I took Orgo 1 and 2 through OSU online because school where I was working on reqs wasnt cray about me doing Inorg and Orgo at same time. I was at a tough undergrad and Im pretty sure I would have made an A on campus, and I barely squeeked out B's from OSU. The classes are crazy tough, and it doesnt help that youre not there. Just my 2 cents on their classes before you decide - online OSU doesnt equal cakewalk. BTW, no probs with any of my schools accepting those credits, but they werent repeats.

OP, if you're open to other on-line classes besides Oregon State, there is also University of New England in Biddeford, Maine which offers distance (i.e. on-line) classes. I took 2 of my pre-req courses through them because I work full-time and couldn't quit my job. The grades from University of New England do not show up as 'on-line' on the transcript.

They may not, but when you're concurrently attending a school in, say, New Mexico or Virginia, they'll be aware that it's online.

I have an email from Oregon State that says the general chemistry (or whatever they courses are named) that are offered online are not chemistry for science majors thus likely not the suitable course for prehealth people.

The course descriptions are the same. I don't know - I didn't take it online, but it says " general chemistry sequence for students majoring in most sciences, pharmacy, and chemical engineering" under both. You're talking about the 200-level, right? The only differences I can see are that one is online and requires a separate lab, and the other is in-class and builds in a lab. Maybe they mean that it won't work for prehealth because of the lab requirement - you would need to take a separate lab class this way.

Also, aside from the previous point (about it being obviously online if you live in a different state), they should not know that it is online. I actually just looked at my transcript (which has some online OSU courses) and I cannot tell the difference.

Finally, here is a link to the schedule searcher so you can look up the course descriptions yourself if you'd like.

I took Orgo 1 and 2 online here and was accepted by 3 schools (MD and DO) so I dont think they have a problem with the credits

Cool. Which schools were ok with the courses being online?

They all were - I live in TX. Applied to 4, 3 interviews/3 acceptances

For what it's worth, I know one of my top choice schools (a state school, too) doesn't take any online courses for pre-reqs. Not that there's any way they'd know, as OSU is not so far away that I couldn't theoretically attend, but it concerns me enough to not want to try it. I'll just take 'em at CC and call it done.

Awesome. Congrtulations. I have about a dozen emails from assorted osteopathic schools saying they'll accept online prereq courses. Originally, that's all I intended to do, but I want to apply here at UAMS. A lady there told me online classes weren't acceptable. dammit

I'll follow up on my post... I did a retake of Chem 2 online from the local community college because of a scheduling issue, which did not show up on my transcript as online. I knew many schools wouldn't accept online, but I never really looked at which ones they were and since I had taken the class before and gotten a C-, I figured C- w/an A online would be fine.

But again, if you don't live in Oregon (or whichever state you're taking the online class from), then it doesn't really matter if it doesn't say "online" on the transcript -- you won't be pulling the wool over anyone's eyes. If they see you attended some out-of-state school at some random time to take a random class or two, they will get the picture.

The TX schools dont seem to have problems with online courses - let me qualify: from legit universities. Like I said, my online Orgo was tougher than our campus class - the OSU prof is a known research guy in the field

Has anyone taken OSU's General Chemistry course over the summer? Would you recommend it?

I took a 300 level 4 credit genetics course through OSU online. I found it to be a pretty easy A, but then again I really enjoy genetics.

An advisor at MSUCOM actually suggested I take it through OSU as they require the course and I didn't have time to take it prior to graduation. I kinda wish I realized it wasn't such a big deal earlier on and took orgo through them rather than at U of M...that was not a super enjoyable time in my life...

I took a 400 level history of medince class online at OSU and it was considerably harder then the in class one according to people who had taken campus one. Also, it is pretty expensive, I think ~250$ a credit more expensive. I would personally avoid it if possible.

I took organic chemistry for the first time in the oregon university system at University of Oregon. It's really tough material. Made it out of the first one alive but not the second. It won't be easy at all.
