I have been searching for the answer to this question but really haven't found much, so I figured I would post on here.

This semester I had to drop Physics II (3 credits) and it brought me down to "part-time" status from what I understand. I entered into the semester as a full time student and didn't expect to have to drop the course. Unfortunately now I had to drop it and I'm wondering if this is going to be a significant setback for medical school because of the "part-time" status effect. It shows up as a W on my transcript as I dropped it mid. semester.

I am a second semester junior and have taken all sorts of semester loads, both heavy and light, and have shown a strong upward trend since my freshman year. Last semester I took 17 credits and got a 3.75; received an A in Physics I and an A- in the lab.

I am posting this here because I am shooting for DO. I have a 3.487 cGPA and a 3.18 sGPA currently.

Any info is greatly appreciated... Thanks!

My guess is that med schools will notice the W before they notice the number of hours you took each semester.

I had a classmate take classes part time for a year because of family issues (delayed graduation by a semester), and they got accepted into an MD school. Although she wasn't asked about it in her interviews and her going part time didn't stop her from applying to any schools, she did mention this in her PS.

tl;dr - avoid W's at all costs. You should be fine being part time.

I'll share my personal experience. I have a couple withdrawals on my transcript, and I still received 5 DO interviews. It's not ideal, but I wouldn't consider it a significant setback. I still received an acceptance.
