I am reapplying after getting 5 WL and no acceptances last cycle. After talking to my premed advisor it seems that my problem last cycle was not completing my secondaries fast enough and not applying early enough.

Do you think I have to rewrite my personal statement for the next cycle or will just making a few edits to update what I have been doing for the past year be enough?

5 WL sounds more like an interview skill issue rather than essay/application issue to me. But if you are reapplying revamp your stuff nonetheless.

What they said. It doesn't have to be built from the bottom up, but you definitely showcase how you've improved, especially to any schools you'll be reapplying to.

I was told to change a few words in my first sentence which is what I did and I was accepted my fourth round.

I imagine that works for the lucky few. Just remember, this is your dream (at least I hope it is.) If you're not willing to at least sit down for a few hours and really think about how you can improve your personal statement, should you really be pursuing such a time and labor intensive profession?

I'm a professional writer and editor of academic personal statements although that business is going to be shut down once I start medical school. The advice of changing a few words in the first sentence of the personal statement which already had about 60 hours invested in that version came from the dean of a school. The reason was exclusively for the reason someone else said, it gives the illusion of a refresh. Everyone she gave that suggestion to ended up accepted their next cycle with no significant changes to their application. Of course that all does depend on your own writing skill and your prior editors and how good your statement was the first time. If it was absolutely bullet proof, minor refreshes to the first sentence is a good idea. I changed the first line of half of my activities as well.

Congrats on your acceptance!! been watching your progress for a while. I would love to get some good tips from you since I am applying in GA.

Don't be so defensive; I offered a differing view point.

Thank you. I was finally accepted where I wanted to go. Read my blog to get some initial tips and from there if there are additional questions, let me know. I have more experience applying to medical school than anyone on this forum.
