Would one be able, instead of going into a 2+4( Pre-Pharm to Pharm.D), to get a BA in Biology and then apply to get into a Pharm.D Program?

Would a BA in Biology cover the requirements of the 2 yr Pre-Pharmacy?

I'm torn between two professions, so i was going to get a BA in Biology and a BS in Environmental Science. I currently attend the University of Delaware as a freshman.

BA Biology

16 Credits Chemistry including Organic
8 Credits Physics
4 Credits Calculus
33 Credits above 300 lvl Biology

for a Total of 124 Credits ( Theres more, but they are electives)

What would be better to major in before going into a Pharm.D

A BA in Biology or a BA in Chemistry?

It all comes down to if you have the pre-reqs completed or not. Each school has unique requirements when it comes to pre-requisites and an undergrade degree in Biology would not exclude you from taking any of the required coursework. Go to a school website and look at their requirements. More and more nowadays programs are requiring that you have an undergraduate degree so it is an asset when searching for which programs to apply to.

definitely look at schools you are interested in applying to before you determine your route. my degree is in biology, but i ended taking about a year's worth of extra courses to be eligible to apply to some schools. a lot of times, your degree won't include courses like microeconomics, speech, or anatomy & physiology, general psych or soc, etc. try and pick out what extraneous classes are common to the schools you're interested in, i found that helped me focus what classes to take. your last year of getting your degree, you will have applied already and you might have time to sign up for any classes that you'll need to take. i believe some schools allow you to take any leftover courses in the summer prior to starting pharmacy school as well.

Good luck! 😀
