For those of you who work as a Pharmacist Intern in a state where lntern permit is required, can you tell me if that permit is employer specific?
Let me ask this way:
1. When you got your first job at CVS, you got your CVS pharmacist signed your application, turned in and got your certificate issued. Can you use that same certificate to work for walgreen later on or do you have to apply for another one?
2. For the same company(such as walgreen) but different stores in the same state, can you use the same certificate?

Thank you very much for your input!

Thanks a lot, Sparda29. Another question: what does that certificate look like? Does it have the name of your initial employer printed on the card or notification paper? Many thanks!

As mentioned by Sparda, the pharmacy intern certificate is issued by your state board of pharmacy, not by a particular employer. In Texas, the Texas State Board of Pharmacy mails you your pharmacy intern certificate, and you are required to bring that to your employer and hang it at your site of residence (I imagine this applies to most, if not all, states). Thus, while an employer is required to hang your intern certificate at your site of employment, they are not related to the actual issuance and reception of your certificate.

To put it another way, I could receive my intern license without ever being employed by a pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens, a hospital or medical center, etcetera).

Nope, no name of my employer printed anywhere.

It just says, "Sparda29 is duly registered to perform as a pharmacy intern in the state of NY"

Something like that, then my intern id# and expiration date and whatnot.

some states require you to have a preceptor listed on file, so if you change employers, you just submit a simple change form to the state signed by your new boss. That's how it works out here in PA in that your initial intern app requires an RPh that will vouch as your designated preceptor.

CA doesn't have such a restriction. License requirements are state specific.

+1.

I have two current active intern licenses in two states. Neither of them are attached to an employer and neither state requires that you have a preceptor. However, if you plan on using those hours for licensure, you need to make sure you have a preceptor.
