For my major (chemical engineering), we take one semester of Organic Chemistry that’s specialized on the industrial level. We also take a semester of physical chemistry.

The only physics required for my major is Newtonian Mechanics and then the rest of the physics we need is integrated in my engineering coursework.

Do I need to take the life science version of Organic Chemistry I AND II and another official physics class to satisfy med school prereqs? This will delay my graduation by a semester.

The vast majority of medical schools require you to take Organic Chemistry 1 & 2 with lab. There are some schools that don't require you to take Organic Chem 2 but they will expect you to replace it with Biochemistry. I would recommend taking the full sequence. You could take orgo 2 during the summer or after graduation (when applying to med school, you don't have to be done with all prereqs but they must be completed before you actually matriculate at the school). As for physics, you are also required to take an official general physics 1 & 2 course with lab. I don't think Newtonian Mechanics satisfies that requirement (I may be wrong though).

I will be taking biochemistry as well because my emphasis within my major is bioengineering. However, it seems I should opt to take OChem 1 and 2 rather than the condensed course. I was already planning to take OChem lab for my advanced chemistry lab requirement.

Newtonian Mechanics is equal to calculus-based Physics 1 with an integrated lab. I should probably take the next physics course as well to be on the safe side. (This seems redundant though because we learn those skills in our electrical/chemical engineering courses). It will end up delaying my graduation a full semester because I already was short 6 general credits that I would have had to take the summer after senior year...

One more question! Sorry.. So my school does not have “General Bio 1 and 2.” The preprofessional advisement tells premeds to just take an intro bio course (no lab), molecular bio + lab, cell biology, genetics, AND advanced physiology + lab to satisfy the Gen Bio + lab requirement. To me, this seems obsessive. Do you have advice on which of these courses are essential? I don’t want to take more classes than necessary since I’ll be graduating with 170+ credits already.

If you want to take only the essentials, I would recommend cell bio, genetics, and physiology (I've seen more people say these courses are helpful to take before taking the mcat). The advice from your school's premed advisement office may seem excessive but I think they just want to be on the safe side since there is no official gen bio sequence.

My school lacked a general bio II. But i was a bio major, so i took intro bio, and then three 200-level courses (ecology, cell bio, and physiology).
