I realize that the answer will vary, but for those of you in private practice- do you work in an imaging center that does outpatient scans? Are there some groups that have contracts with multiple hospitals, and you just rotate from hospital to hospital? Is the office set up so that several people are reading in one large room? Is there interaction among colleagues and if there is a complicated study, do you get other people's opinions and collaborate on the interpretation?

I've only seen rads in the academic/community hospital setting. I've noticed that there is usually one large reading room with several stations and then smaller, individual rooms with just one station. Just wondering what the difference was...

Yes.

Mammography for example has legal requirements regarding the amount of backlight in the reading room. Also, it is extremely important to be able to maintain your concentration reading mammo (which can be a challenge when working in the 'ballroom').
And then there are some radiologists who just have to be kept away from the 'general population'. Sort of like 'ad-seg' in prison 😉

I wanted to get a better idea of the private world for you guys. I like the anatomy, intellectual focus. Well, I like a lot of stuff, but I'm looking into something that will give me more flexibility. Don't need crazy cash.

Yah, I could go for derm but regular old acne bothers the crap out of me (clinical dermpath at the county hospital was cool but that's probably not the usual case).

Anyway, do you guys that have very frequent call and is call nasty? Especially for you folks who work in semi-urban or suburban areas.

Aren't you already a resident?

Right. I'm a resident. So I guess my pseudo real world experience has me wondering. I can't say that I'm ecstatic about my current line of work. I don't see it getting better.
