Hi!

I was just wondering what other people's thoughts were on this situation. If I am not accepted into Fall 2006 to osteopathic medical school ( i really want to be a D.O.), if i apply again to d.o. schools i didn't apply before for fall 2007, will i still be considered a "re-applicant"? this is my first time applying and i am considering applying again. my situation is that i did apply late this time around (my primaries weren't done until october) and was wondering if i submitted a fall 2007 application starting this june 1 (as early as possible!) would i have a better chance? my stats are slightly below the general average as far as grades and mcats go. i would like to re-take the mcat but not this coming august if i am applying this year ( i dont want to get pushed back in the cycle and wait for scores). Any thoughts?

I'm in the process of reapplication right now, still waiting to hear, but got way more interviews this time around. You aren't considered as a re-applicant if you never applied before. I would recommend that if things don't work out this time around, figure out why and do what you can to improve your application for the next time around. While applying early is important it's not a guarantee that if you apply early you'll get in. I took a year between application cycles to retake my MCAT, bolster my clinical experience, and start working towards my Masters of Public Health. I did all of this in response to some conversations I had with deans where I didn't get in. The best advice I can give is make yourself the best possible applicant and while we are all in a hurry to do the things we want, sometimes taking some time and really maximizing everything is the best way. Don't waste your money by reapplying without doing something else to make your application stronger. Make sure you reapply to at least some of the same schools if not all, they like to see that you are persistent, and that you are doing things to make yourself a better applicant.
