Hi,

Besides professors' and the Premed committee's letters, I wonder whether I can ask someone else (such as a relative) to write for me? 🙄

Ah, one more question: if you work in a lab and there is a supervisor who directly trains you besides a mentor who usually sits in the office (both know about your lab performance), whom would you ask for recomm. ? 🙄

Relatives are not acceptable. Physician's you've shadowed, work/volunteer supervisors, coaches are acceptable non-professor letters.

OK , thanks for your responses. Please look at my second question, too ^^

I would ask whoever has the "more impressive" degree. E.g. if the supervisor has a master's and the mentor has a PhD, a PhD referee would look better, considering the two know you more or less equally well.

Ah, both of them have PhD, but the mentor is the one who directs (gives order to) everyone in the lab.

I should ask whom I think would write a more favorable letter, right ?

Well, that's kind of implied, isn't it?

ask the one that has more clout for the recommendation. or ask that it be written (or signed) by both.

Ask the supervisor to write it and the mentor to sign it.
