Question about remaining coursework

I have not been accepted to a school *yet* (crosses fingers) but I'm feeling worried about a grade in my genetics class this semester. It is a very tough course taught by an almost impossible professor - the class has a 56% fail rate and my school considers a D passing. I'm worried that I might actually make a D in this course. I will retake the course over the summer if I make a D.

I have never come close to making a D - it is an AWFUL class. This course is required for my degree (Biology) and I will graduate in May. If I am accepted to PT school, will they reject me if I make a D in this class? It is not a prerequisite for any of my schools but it is part of my remaining coursework to complete my degree in Biology.

If you get accepted to a PT school with prerequisites outstanding, I think you only need to get through those prerequisites with whatever their standard is for an acceptable grade. Of course, you'll need to have a bachelor's degree completed by the time the program would start too.

Those kinds of classes (with fail rates like that) can be rough, regardless of the subject. Is there a different professor available to teach that class if you retake it? I don't think you should worry TOO much since it isn't a prerequisite class, and I can't imagine any school would revoke an acceptance they already made to you because of a subsequent grade you got in a non-prerequisite course.

Thanks for your post, this made me feel a lot better. I can have a D in the course and still obtain my bachelors. The summer semester does offer an easier professor but I expect to graduate in May. If it comes down to it, I'll postpone graduation through the summer semester and do it then. If would suck to not have the summer off before starting PT school, but such is life.

Thinking: if you still maintain the required overall GPA for the PT program w/ the D.....Why retake the genetics class? By keeping your GPA up and completing the Bach and prereqs you still meet the requirements for the PT program. I ditto what rangardrum posted. Once they accept you.......you could have that discussion w/ the program admin. if it still concerns you.....before you pay them to hold your seat 🙂 Good LUCK

I don't know if it'll help but I'll share what I know with you. I received notification this week that I was accepted to a program for which I am still taking 2 of the prereq classes. I was concerned and emailed them back asking how conditional my acceptance was on my grades and I was told I only need to receive C's once I accept. Each school is different but maybe this will give you some hope in case you don't have time to retake genetics! (which is a hell of a class at my school too, good luck!)
