Wasn't sure if it should be in ERAS or here.. but put it here cause you guys did it already so i assume you know the answers..

Anyway I heard if you report the Step 2 CK score, you automatically report step 2 CS? Is this true? My step 2 CK score is coming out before my Step 2 CS. Once I get my CK score i plan to release it immediately since most programs want it. Does this automatically release my CS score as well once it is out??

I'm wondering b/c if I fail the CS I'd rather not report it and just take it over again.

If you request that your scores be transmitted, it submits all available scores including CS. If your CS isn't available yet, it won't be transmitted.

That said, if you're honestly worried about failing CS (I'm assuming you're an IMG) I would study hard for it. Failing CS is a massive red flag because it's pretty hard to do. Also, you can't fail it, then take it again and only report the pass. They will see the fail as well.

No I'm AMG, but the recent CS changes has made it much harder to pass. Our school had a high fail rate (wayyy higher than both step 1 and step 2 ck) last yr

Hm interesting, so if they see all the score, and I report it after match day, will they reject me after I already matched w/ them?? I figured their main worry would me me unable to start on time b/c we have to pass all steps to start residency. The reason I'm wondering if b/c my instructor attending highly recommended it that I take it in January. But if I take it in January, that automatically means it wont be available before ranking deadline [since Jan scores come out in March], which I think will be a big hit to me b/c I interviewed at some competitive places and I dont think they'll rank me well if I dont have a CS when all their other applicants have fantastic apps.

Just trying to figure out the best strategy to go about with this.. either guaranteed no score if i take it in January, vs taking it in December w/ higher risk of failing, and just not send the score if I fail.. and if i pass i'll send..

I hope that your attending knows what he/she's talking about. I'm not saying that they don't, I'm just saying that some fields expect you to have submitted CK and CS before they will rank you. This will usually be abundantly clear though. In my case, I was asked by several EM programs to make sure that I submitted my CK and CS scores before the match list closes. I have no idea if it's the same for gas.

EDIT: Also, if that's your strategy, you should take it in Dec.
Logic: Jan test. Results irrelevant. If a program needs to see a pass to rank, you don't get ranked.
Dec test. If you pass and a program needs to see a pass, you get ranked. If you fail, you retake it later and don't get ranked just like you would in the first scenario. At best you rank and at worst you're no worse off than you were in scenario 1 except for the fact that you have to take the test again.

I have NEVER heard the suggestion to delay CS so that programs don't get your score. I have only heard the suggestion that you should take CS early enough that programs can see you passed and then put you on their rank list.

i'm guessing its been so long since they did it they aren't up to date anymore.

thanks for the inputs everyone!
