Hi, I am really confused about the residency part. I am aware that some schools favor their own state residents over out-of-state applicants. Well I go to a school in CA but my permanent residency is, I believe, in Kentucky since my parents live there? I will even be working soon in CA which means I pay for tax right? so which state residency do I have? And if I have the kentucky residency, how do I change to californian one if i wanted to? Thx guys.

One way of determining residency is whether you pay in-state or out-of-state tuition. If you pay out-state tuition in California, keep it that way if you wish to keep Kentucky as your primary state of residence. If you want to gain California residency, then I suggest you go through the legal way. Usually, this entails working there for a certain amount of time, getting your Cali driving license, wait a year and pay in-state tuition. I'm sure there is a more comprehensive list you can get at your school's registrars/bursars/financial aid office. I also heard (and you may want to research this) that if your parents still claim you as a dependent, then you are a Kentucky resident...
