When showing schools you are interested or even during interviews, should you tell EVERY school they are your number 1 choice and that if accepted anywhere else you would come there? Should you have a list of reasons as to why you would want to go there versus your state school, etc?

Because obviously you only have 1 top choice, but should you be able to tell each school why you would rather go to their school than any other even if it's not your top choice?

Don't give empty promises. I never told schools they were my top choice and they never asked. One school only asked me if I got into my state school would I go there over any other schools and I answers I'd go where I felt I fit in best. They nodded their heads. So no I would not basically give a verbal letter of intent to every school. I think it seems a little desperate. Just learn about why you genuinely like that school and talk about that. Don't compare it to other schools just talk about their school. 🙂

See if schools don't flat out ask something like if you got into your state school would you still go here, then that's cool. And I guess I could always respond that I haven't decided and want to see what every school is about before I make a decision or something along those lines.

I would definitely respond something more along those lines, personally. Good luck with your interviews!!!

I am not sure why anyone would advise applicants NOT to say that each school is their top choice. The only reason why this may come off as an empty statement is when the student did not research sufficiently to back up this claim. It is EXPECTED that students express their desires to attend a certain program as dental schools are not in the habit of admitting students who frankly do not want to be there. - Admissions Advice Online

Possibly because it would be a blatant lie and not just "an empty statement". Finding something good about a program does not equate with making it the "top choice".

Thanks for the responses, I mean I am only going to apply to schools I would want to go to but obviously I have a top choice or have a ranking, so I wouldn't mind going to either of them if I didn't get in to my top choice. I don't want to to just blatantly lie about how if I got into my state school I would still go to X school, but I still want them to know that I am interested and don't want that to have an impact on my chances because I want as many acceptances as possible.

For an ego boost?

Heck why not, after all, they are not going to believe you anyway.

:laugh::laugh::laugh: that is funny, but there is some truth to it.
They know every applicant has to lie because they are desperate to get the seat.

Be the sheep and follow the leader lol

Ha no, I just want to make sure I at least get in somewhere, so I want to put my best out to every school. I don't care about the amount of acceptances, but want to increase my chance of getting in somewhere

I sent my state school (Indiana) a letter of intent two days ago. I feel like that would be good
