So I have to wait for my new MCAT scores to come in (7/19/11) before I submit my AMCAS so that the schools do not look at my old scores and filter out my application prior to seeing the new scores. So basically I'm waiting for my MCAT scores, then waiting for my AMCAS to become verified before I can receive and start to complete secondaries. But what if I submit my AMCAS now with only one school that is not even a potential acceptance, ie Hawaii. Then my AMCAS would be reviewed and I could fix any potential problems with my app that would delay its submission, ie missing grade entries or missing transcripts and when my MCAT scores come in I could then add all of my legitimate schools and they would receive my app almost instantly. It seems like a decent idea, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The application will say that you are awaiting MCAT results, so many/most schools won't even look at, let alone reject, your application until the new MCAT scores are released. Feel free to apply to a single school until you are verified and have your MCAT, but don't waste the money applying to a school that you have no chance nor intent to attend. If you wait until the MCAT is released to start verification, you will be delayed longer than necessary.

Sounds like a swell idea to me. 🙂 How low was your first score? If I were you, I'd submit your application to a school where your first MCAT was in the bottom 10th percentile. Or to a school with automatic secondaries, like GW. That way you won't be screened out based on your first MCAT, and by the time you get your application complete, your new and improved MCAT will have been released.

Thanks for the replies. My first MCAT was very low (10,6,9) I rushed through the entire verbal and felt I was guessing on a lot, but everyone told me not to void. I also took the test without finishing my prereqs (orgo II and bio II), now that those are done any I took six weeks of intense preping and my practice MCAT average has moved from 26-29 to 32-35. I also felt very confident after this MCAT, something I couldn't say about the first.

Also, I know that you can indicate that you plan to take another MCAT on AMCAS, I'm just ambivalent about trusting that the med schools will hold my app until then or simply filter it based on the first scores. I think I will submit to a possible school, just not one of my top picks. Thanks again.

You could just pick a handful of schools and submit to become verified and then add more schools when your new score comes.
