Hey everyone, have mostly just been creeping around here and observing, but this is one of my first posts here. I am graduating in may with my bachelors in Biology. I am going to apply for the 2008 cycle, so while I am taking the next year off, I was planning on taking Physics 1 and 2 at a CC close to my home to get that pre-req in. Would this be ok? I just haven't had the opportunity to take it at my undergrad. Thanks for the help in advance!

Hey Arcella...

I would honestly recommend calling the schools that you want to apply to. Some dental schools won't accept CC credits while others will. Have you tried looking on the schools websites? If you can't find any info on their website, then definately call them. Since it is a pre-req some schools might look down on it even more than normal. I wouldn't chance it if you don't have to....

I agree. Your best bet is to check with all the schools that you are interested in applying to. Your worst case scenario is that you'll get accepted on what you have done at the university and then you'll have to take the Physics at a University. Because the DAT does not cover Physics, it is a pre-req that is sometimes taken after someone actually is accepted, but prior to matriculation. Hope this helps.

If the DAT doesn't cover physics, why bother taking physics class? Unless of course the school you're interested in requires it, but that may not even be the case. Also, when I read the AADSAS info, I gathered that they require transcripts from all the places you've attended. I doubt sending in transcripts from a community college will really help you, although I honestly don't know if it would hurt either.

I took calculus at a CC and I lucked out with that one because that is the only class Tufts doesn't require that it be taken at a 4 yr university. I took physics at my state college, umass. It was more expensive than at the CC, but just as easy since I took it over the summer. But definately make a list of where you will be applying to and check out what the schools want.

Thanks for the replies... I guess I will just have to call each school and ask like some of you have suggested. What if thats the only route though of taking physics? Surely some schools will be forgiving.

You don't have to call each school. The information on the science requirements will be on that school's website. Good luck!
