I'm applying this cycle and am debating on applying to TCOM as a nonresident. I was born in Texas but now live in Utah. Some of my immediate family lives in Dallas and attended the University of N. Texas and the DO that I received a letter from went to TCOM. I have average stats (cgpa 3.45 sgpa 3.45 and taking the mcat next month). Does having a background with Texas give me any advantage when applying there?

If you and another applicant are neck and neck, it might help. But, since you're competing against others for the 10% allotted spots, you'll need a really good mcat score to be competitive. Good luck.

Worry about the mcat first before worrying if you have an advantage. Getting a good mcat will give you a much better advantage.

Having ties to Texas is always a good thing (and would be a decent talking point during an interview), but like others said, a good MCAT score is your best bet.
