Question about teaching Dentistry...

I am interested in teaching dentistry/doing research..

If you have a DDS degree, do you just teach the Dental technique courses? Like how you actually complete a procedure?

I would really like to teach some courses in biochemistry, pharmacology, etc in dental school..Can you do that with just a DDS or would you need a PhD as well?

For us, all off our "dental skills" profs have a DDS/DMD. And the profs who teach our "Oral Biology" type classes have a PhD.

I believe teaching the science courses like biochemistry, pharmacology, etc. - you have to have a PhD.

At our school, the basic science professors tend to have PhDs. However, our histology professor was an MD. It probably depends on what field you are looking to teach- if you are really looking to teach only a basic science, you are probably wasting your time with the DDS and should pursue a PhD.
