Question about Texas schools

Some of the schools have secondaries on their website that you can fill out immediately (i.e. UT Southwestern, UTSA)

I cant remember if the other schools send it to you on their own or what. But I would recommend you fill out the secondaries for the ones that are available ASAP and send them in.

As for interviews, I'm a first time applicant to the Texas system so I'm not sure. I would guess that they first start ocurring in August/September. Anybody who applied to the Texas system last answer this?

AMCAS needs to get a clue from the Texas web based application. I havent had a single problem with it since it went live. Of course I'm sure some people have had problems with it but they certainly are fewer and far between than AMCAS.

Now if the AAMC would just hurry up and process my MCAT ASR request to the Texas system....

For those of you interested, interviews at some Texas schools start in early to mid-August. I applied last year, and if I recall correctly, I had interviewed at A&M, UT-Houston, and UT-Galveston before I started my fall classes on August 28th. I think UT-San Antonio and UT-Southwestern were my last two interviews, and those were in September. Typically, the interview invitations came around three to four weeks before the actual date. Some are flexible with your dates, others are not. For example, UTMB-Galveston interviews alphabetically (with a few exceptions), so don't worry if you're not interviewed until later. But the beauty of the Texas system is that it really doesn't matter when you interview because none of the schools can accept anyone until January 15th. So just try to get your applications in early, because it's nice to get some of the trips out of the way before classes start. Good luck to everyone.

If I remember correctly, I submitted the primary Texas app about two weeks after it went live. I havent quite finished up the secondaries yet, but hopefully by the end of this week they will be out the door as well.

I think my holdup at this point with the getting the app processed will be the MCAT. I took it in 1999 so I had to get the AAMC to process an ASR to send it to the Texas system. I did that about two months ago and the Texas system has still not received it yet 😕

As far as the secondaries go, I think you can download most of them from the web using Acrobat. The only school to which I "officially" applied last year that required a secondary was UTMB, and I know I downloaded it off of their website. There should be a link to it on the Texas System's page somewhere.

Wow! Tweety! You were really on the ball getting all your stuff in so early 😱 I'm sure that will increase your chances...that is if early submission helps with the TMDSAS application??? I don't know anything about it.

I guess that's a good question for all those Texans out there, does getting your apps in early to the Texas schools help even with the ranking system used by the TMDSAS?

Umm...I sent in my app June 22nd last year, 2ndarys by July. I got interview invitations starting....um...around July 15-20th ish. And all my interviews were done by mid-September.

And if UTMB-Galveston interviews alphabetically, thats wierd, b/c one of my HS friends and I both interviewed the same day - his last name starts w/a W and mine with a P. And this was in August... Anyways...

I interviewed at Baylor in late September (sent my application in mid-July) and almost all of the Texas applicants there had already interviewed through the UT system at that point. I think if you turn your stuff in early (before the end of July), you will probably be done with your Texas school interviews by the end of September.

I submitted my application to the Texas Application Service a week before it was due and to Baylor the day before it was due (overnight mail because it was an afterthought). I interviewed at UT-Houston sometime in October and UTMB and Baylor sometime in November (I think).
