Greetings everyone,

I'm a fourth-year student who just matched at the Cleveland Clinic. The program was in my top 5 and the others were reaches, so I was initially very happy about it.

But I then I get on here and (surprise) everyone has nothing but bad things to say about the place. I don't know what to think now.

If anyone out there has some genuine opinions about what the residency program will actually be like, please reply or PM me if you wish.

It was the oerwhelming negative sentiment of the SDN that caused me to avoid this board for the majority of the application cycle. I came on here for general information (such as who my classmates would be, earning potential, how to live in cleveland, etc.), but so far the only thing my search results have yielded are complaints, horror stories, more complaints, and then yet more horror stories. Some are VERY hard to believe (e.g. Low case volume) or not even problems at all (e.g. a corporate atmosphere - Good!).

This is my job now. Truthful opinions or experiences from the institution would be greatly appreciated.

I have been on this board for almost 6 years. Very few programs are unscathed by negative comments. I have seen more positives than negatives for Cleveland Clinic. In fact, Amyl says it is the best program ever. I think she is a CA-III there. You can probably find her posts. I wouldn't worry about what this board says. There is a mix of honesty, lies, gamesmanship, and people who comment despite having no real knowledge of what they are talking about. Don't sweat it and congrats.

Congrats with the match, Section. There are a couple CCF residents on SDN who can help answer some of your questions. PM me with anything specific. Look forward to meeting you in June.

Congrats! It is a great program. I would not worry too much about the negative comments found on this board. PM me if you have questions about the program or living in Cleveland in general. Look forword to meeting you soon!

Many programs take a hit right before rank lists go in as candidates jockey for position and try to eliminate competition and increase their chances of matching at their desired program.

Not saying that is always the story, but I have seen it happen enough to know that a few people do it.

im a resident here now and although negatives exist in every program, I think the positives outweigh the bad by far. I think some of the comments about CCF may have applied several years ago but the program is revamped for the better due to improved leadership
some positives to look forward to
1: great comraderie among residents
2: access to every anesthesiology fellowship, and mentorship from working with fellows
3: prominent leadership whose letters will take you far when applying for fellowship/jobs in academia
4: extremely cush intern year avg 50 hrs with minimal overnight call the entire year!!!
5: great clinical training (although this is true at many other programs) with good regional, cardiac, OB, transplant, chronic pain experience
6: less than 60 hours a week on average
7. many opportunities for in house weekend moonlighting and getting paid any time you stay late in the general ORs
8: supportive staff who like to teach in every department
9: structured didactics with an emphasis on board preparation
10: residents are very involved in determining our academic curriculum

residents from other specialties have often told me they were jealous of the CCF anesthesia residents (primarily for the lifestyle). I think you'll do fine to have matched at CCF
