When we're taking the restorative portion of the board exam, whether it is on the typodont or patient, are we allowed to choose which armamentarium (burs, hand instruments, etc.) to use or are we restricted to use only a certain set? For example, when doing a simple class II amalgam preparation on the typodont, can we use the gingival margin trimmer or do we only have the hatchet available? Or can we use a 330 diamond instead of a carbide?

as far as I know, you can use whichever instrument you want that the school where you are taking the exam at offers if this is on live patient. for typodont, I feel you can bring whatever you want in or use whatever the school offers.

You can use whatever you want or whatever is available to you. Assuming you're taking it at your school, you should have your regular armamentarium available to you. If you take it at a different school, you may want to consider bringing your own kit so you know what you have
