question about the teeth x ray

when the dentist is about to take a x ray of your teeth and he places two pieces of a white things. does he place in in between the front two pieces of your teeth? im worried since i have a small gap in between the top and bottom and hope it doesnt widen it even more? im thinking of getting braces and when the dentist is cleaning your teeth if u have a small gap does it widen since he is going up and down between the teeth?

Maybe you just don't remember all the details of getting x-rays before, but I'm about 99% sure the dentist never put an x-ray between your teeth and never will. Also, when the dentist cleans your teeth, he removes calculus (calcified plaque). Don't confuse calculus with tooth structure. The diastema may appear bigger after a cleaning but it's only because he cleaned off all the calculus between your teeth.

when i went to the dentist he gave me a xray and always telling me to BITE DOwn to hold the xray as if my gap teeth is biting down the cardboard.
