Hello, long time lurker here who just got around to finally making an account 🙂

I have a question about the breadth of my personal statement. I have been working on it for close to a month now and am nearing my final draft. The overall theme of my personal statement is HEAVILY focused on the underserved. The general outline of my personal statement is as follows:

It is a very strong PS in my opinion, but I fear that since I've focused so heavily on the underserved and the significance of helping people in need, it comes off as too one dimensional.

For example, I'm worried that more research oriented schools will read my PS and immediately count me out, or only that schools whose mission is specifically on underserved areas/underrepresented communities will consider me.

Is my app too one dimensional? Is focusing heavily on the underserved going to take me out of consideration for some schools?

Thanks for all your help in advance <3

I think the actual opposite! They will like that your personal statement has a theme and that you are a genuinely compassionate person who has proven his/her desire to help the underserved. I don't think the PS is supposed to be super broad in scope as that is what activities section/secondaries are for.
