Hello,

I would like to please have some clarification of how the traffic guidelines work, and when is the final “deadline” to commit to a school.

I have read the information on the “AACOMAS traffic guidelines” page on the website.

I have payed a deposit and am holding a seat for “School A”. I am also on a waitlist for “School B”. School B is my top choice. If I am accepted off the waitlist after May 1, would I be able to attend school B?

I am asking because it is unclear to me whether any school will drop me from their class after May 1 if they know I have paid a deposit somewhere else.

Thank you very much in advance for the clarification!

The guidelines seem clear to me, so I'm not sure what you are asking.

If you wind up with an offer after May 1, the school (B) can ask for a deposit on their own schedule; they don't need to give you 14 days (between January 15 and April 30). Depending on when their orientation is, you may have a deadline of 1 week... it's up to them. Obviously you must notify the other school (A) and forfeit any money you have given them to save the seat there.

Many schools will have multiple deposit deadlines, including one for April 30. For the most part, the AACOMAS school deadlines seem to be non-refundable. If you get an offer from A, be prepared to send your deposit as soon as possible or you could lose the seat if they don't cash your check a week after they extended the offer to you (or whatever their deadline is).

Ok, thank you. So you’re saying that if school A sees I paid a deposit at school B, it’s ok because they will let me know that I have to make a decision before they automatically do anything?

Right. Program A won't know you have a deposit at B until you send them a deposit. That way you can tell B your intentions and they can change your status about dropping your seat.
I have a similar question, if you could help me clarify this @Mr.Smile12

I'm on 4 WL's currently with no A's. High stats but applied and interviewed late in the cycle so assume there aren't seats left but optimistic I might get in once movement happens. After May 1, if I get an A and deposit do I have to withdraw from all other waitlists?
Or can I stay on the waitlists and hope for other A's?

Traffic rules and CYMS (for AMCAS schools) generally govern the management of multiple offers. You can still be on a waitlist (or multiples) if you get an offer until the Commit to Enroll deadline for the offering school. If you get a second offer, you then must follow the Traffic Guidelines and CYMS to ensure that you manage your offers professionally.

The above is for MD. For DO, you may remain on the WL, but know that the DO schools may quickly see that you have multiple acceptances once you do get off the WL and the one taking you off the WL will want a deposit rather quickly.

Got it, thank you both!
